In my dreams

Whoa whoa WHOA, waaaay to long with no post. Sorry dudes, let's just pretend the last 2 weeks never happened, k? Just dropping in for a quick post for now, and hopefully I'll have some cool features lined up for y'all soon.
I've come in possession of some pretty amazing pieces lately, thrifted and some not (very rare for me if you've noticed!). Example, these perrrrrfect Topshop jeans! My friend who was away in England for uni just came back 2 weeks ago, but before she left there I gave her a shopping list of things to get for me... one of them being these jeans! I've been searching for the perfect pair of high waisted, super flared jeans for literally months after seeing Selina's amazing jean find and the inspiration behind them. I had been mostly looking on eBay, but haden't come across anything I love for a decent price. Then through some kind of perfectly timed miracle I was browsing Topshop's online shop when I saw these jeans. It was fate. They're from the Tall line so they're suuuuper long, which I love cos I can wear massive plaforms and they still graze the ground. Seriously guys, I'm in love and I'm going to have a very 70's summer with these bad boys, a la Dazed and Confused.

Check me out, hangin at a strip mall. Badass.

Not a bad fit considering I didn't get to try them on, just blindly picked a size to be honest!

So that's it for now, maybe I'll have some quicky updates soon on what I've been up to and show some of the other great things I've found... perhaps even a DIY or two? Lord knows I haven't done one in ages. We'll see!

CrazySexyCool

Urrrm, so I starting working on this post last night because since I don't have any pictures or excitement to share with you, (walking around all sweaty, looking at flats all day is less-than-fab blogging material) I wanted make a run down of some of the things I realllllly want right now. This whole clock idea seemed cool in my head last night, but now... I don't know, haha! Anyways, what's important is what's inside!
I realized that there are a lot of things I'm looking for right now, as in specific items that I have in my head and visualize myself wearing. It's not untill I actually finished the collage that I realize a bit of a theme going on... black, black, and more black... oh and did I mention black? For the first time ever I'm finding myself attracted to simpler pieces that are.... as much as I despise the word... chic. I have NEVER felt the need to be dressed in a way that's feminine, relaxed, and yes, chic, but that's just the kind of mood I'm feeling right now. I guess this is what Fall looks like!

12-2 o'clock: Topshop bra-top, Rayanne's bra-top from My So-Called Life, and Katy Rodriguez bra-top. Yes, I want a bra top. With high-waisted paperbag trousers, oh YES!
3-4 o'clock: I feel like I need more hats... I never wear them. I'd probably look like a fool in a bowler, but some girls just look amazing in them. One I think I could pull off is a felt scouts-style beret, yes? In green or black, please!
5 o'clock: Saw these leggings in Topshop yesterday. They have sheer panels. I mean...
6 o'clock: This skirt I saw in the H&M pre-fall style guide and I WANT. I love that it looks extra long and wide, so I'm sure it swishes around a lot when you walk. Need to keep digging around the H&Ms to find this!
7 o'clock: Baggy plaid shirt. Don't know why I don't own one. Really, there are none in Winnipeg thrift stores!
8-10 o'clock: A big, hairy/fuzzy/furry sweater! The more monsterous the better.
11 o'clock: Leather scoop gloves. Wanted to make these, but still haven't thrifted the perfect pair of leather gloves yet! May need to lift my leather ban and just buy these bad boys...

Trying to be heroic in an age of modernity

Ok guys, the moment you've all been waiting for (right??)...
...
...
.....
.........
(a.k.a. my shop)
The time has come. I have finally, after months and months of promises, finished my shop. Now you can go ahead and max out your credit cards.
But seriously, I have worked so hard on this project, from creating the themes I wanted to work with, painstakingly contructing the pieces one at a time ALONE, to taking the pictures and putting together the final shop page that is Modernity.
To avoid sounding too convoluted and/or pretentious, I'll just say a few words on why I chose this particular title (there's a reason for everything, people!). Not only is modernity one of my favourite words (hi, language geek!) but what I really wanted to express with the things I make is that styles and trends are constantly changing and it's up to us, the fashion community, to create the future of fashion in our own personal ways. Instead of mourning over the past, and dragging on about how things "were better back in the day", we really need to continue to push forward and focus on the "now" rather than the "then".
What is considered "modern" is always changing, and it's up to us, right here and now, do define it. Like the title of this post ever so beautifully states (thank you Bloc Party), I am trying to carve out my own niche in what I consider "modern", whatever that may word mean to you, in clothing, fashion, and personal style. I beleive that the things I have made for this shop are not only %100 original in design, things you will never and have never seen before, but that they represent a new kind of aesthetic in their simple colours, bold graphics, and grotesque inspired themes that are represented in a very playful way. Hopefully when you see my pieces that you will feel the same way, and in some way connect with my personal vision of the future.
Okay so that WAS really long...
...
You probably didn't read any of it anyways, so just CLICKY AND LOOK AT PRETTY THINGS!

The cold song

You guys, I'm going to Capetown! No, not in South Africa --although that would be wicked. No, no, I mean I'm OBSESSED WITH CAPES!
Ok so that was a really bad joke, but seriously people, can we all just ditch the frumpy coats and go frolic in capes and little russian hats and hand muffs?? I call this Castelbajac one! Muffs always remind of that Clueless episode when they made like 500 muffs for a school project, or charity, or something. Correct me if I'm wrong, THIS IS ESSENTIAL INFORMATION PEOPLE!!!
I own one little grey cape from Urban Outfitters, which has a houndstooth print on the inside, which is really cute and very Sherlock Holmes-y. About a week ago I thrifted another one, which is about 1000x more amazing. It's huge, and red, and has arm slots (which my other one doesn't) which makes it all the more convenient to put your hands in your muff! Ahh, I'm dying for one now! Annnnyways, I call this my Little Red Riding Goth look.
OH YES. I went there.

I remembered I made this cape collage about 2 months ago, it was lurking around in my labyrinth of photo folders. Some cute ones here, no? I checked back at the sources and they're all either from eBay or Etsy, but ironically (and sadly) they're ALL sold out. We can dream though, right? Ahh what to I care, I've got the best one in my closet already! Suckaaaahs!

Let's have some fun, this beat is sick...

Just a few quick updates today. I got two of my recent eBay orders in today, one of them being those amazing boots a blogged about earlier, and another being these MINDBLOWING sunglasses. They're part steampunk, part 90's cybergoth, and one HUGE part Gaga. They'll suit me well cos I've a wierd nose just like hers. Big nosed people, unite and be proud!!

Hopefully I'll have a better post for the weekend, but in the meantime I guess you guys should know that I CAVED and made a twitter account. I used to just assume twitter was a fad and would be over and old news in a few months, and agreed with my Shakespeare prof when he most eliquently stated "I am not a twit, therefor I do not tweet". But now since it looks like its here to stay... why not:

Nice and Shiny on Twitter
"Follow" me... I guess? ... Or not.... please?

Planet Health

These boots were clearly created in my own personal vision of the Holy Trinity. Guys, these are just too perfect.

Please pray with me in the hopes that I shall overcome evil bidders and win these boots. I'm giving you the link in the faith that you shall not decieve me and bid on these gorgeous chunks of heaven youself.

Thank you, God bless.

*UPDATE*: THEM BOOTS ARE MIIIINE! Wootwoot, I won the auction! Thanks for good vibes send my way

But everyone shows me faces

I mean, I'm not crazy... right?
ARE THESE NOT THESE THE EXACT SAME BOOTS?!?

The question is, who did it first? Hmmm. I'm betting on ol' Jeffrey to the be the copycat. I've just got a feeling.
Personally, I like the Alice + Olivia ones better. Not to mention their attractive price tag of $49.99 US... versus the $198 Jeffrey Campbell model. In the end it doesn't really matter to me as here in the middle of nowheresland Canada, both are far FAR from reach.

My mercury's in retrograde

So Sunday night I went to the Bloc Party concert, and it was AMAZING! I was so freaking excited I nearly wet my pants. They definately did not dissapoint, the show was just so great. And to make it even better Hot Hot Heat opened, who are just awesome and were my favourite band when I was 15... good memories of me blasting HHH in my room.
Unfortunatly it seems I have very little talent in live action photography. How do some people get such good concert photos!? I have no clue how they do it, but here's the one good picture from Hot Hot Heat and a collage of the best of Bloc Party.

I wore this to the concert, then wore it the next day as well because I had no clean clothes. I think it's going to be creepers and high-waisted jeans every day this summer...

Later that day I got a package from Solestruck.com, who kindly offered me some free shoes a few weeks back! It took me a while to pick my favaourite, as Sole Struck has sooooo many amazing shoes and brands like Jeffrey Campbell, Betseyville, and Sam Edelman. Some faves include...

In the end I decided on the fiercest Jeffrey Campbell heels. I was so excited to rip open the package, I made an event of it with some cheesecake. Shoes and dessert, is there a better combo out there? I think not.

Back to the shoes themselves, they are AWESOME!! They fit perfectly and I love all the different sized chains wrapped around the traps. To top it off, the box was really cool too...

Jeepers...

Yeaaah, BE JELZ! I've been shopping around online for months to find the perfect creepers, and I finally found just what I was looking for on Amazon. I ordered them quick snap, and now they're home safe and sound. I am so freaking happy with these bad boys, they are rad-ness taken to a whole OTHA LEVAAAAL!

Excitement for me = tons of pictures for you. Be grateful, you are in the presence of holiness... in shoe form.

I want it all

So I was flipping through Nylon the other day and saw this wicked tank top on one of the "mass appeal" pages. It said it was by Insight, which I have never heard of, so I searched and found... heaven. Thank you Karmaloop, thank you so much.
I want everything.

Feel free to put this collage on your background and drool. Can you tell I just watched The Wackness?
I want to be back in '94.

And while we're on Karmaloop, I'll take these as well:

These are the days when you have to try

I've always admired anyone who can pull off an awsome hat. No, not a beanie or a toque or anything quite so glamourous. I'm talking about crazy fly headgear a la Isabella Blow. Now SHE knew how to work a hat.
I love hats but I feel like I'm not one who can work them into my outfits. If I try wearing one I feel like it draws a lot more attention than I'd like. I try to balance an outfit, not just so one piece pulls all the attention. This spring/summer I'm going to make a real effort to bring the hat back... full force!
For the past few years I've been obsessed with those little military caps that you see in old WWII pictures and waiters at 50's diners, and don't forget Britney in the "Toxic" video! It took me a long time before I even thought to find out what they were called. 5 seconds on Wikipedia anwered my question. What a no brainer...

Anyways, I found out they were called forage caps, also known as garrison caps. I plugged it into eBay and found exactly what I was looking for: a lovely, green, authentic military forage cap. I bid right away and scored one for less that 10 bucks, with shipping!
The seller wrapped it in tissue paper with a little sticker, how precious! I wanted to cry it was so adorable.
I'm so pumped to try it out. I love the old pictures of women with short curly hair and the cap placed perfectly over their part. I just got a lot of layers in my hair so maybe it'll actaully hold a curl now. I think I'll put badges and pins on mine, the eBay seller even gave me a real U.S. army button with the hat!
My next hat hunt will be a black boater. Ever since I saw JLo's Just Sweet runway show I've been DYING for a black sequined boater hat. Of course anything that rad is not actually on sale on the Just Sweet website... the only cool thing in your collection Jenny and you decide to not sell it?! Girrrrl, not hot!

I want fabulous, that is my simple request

Quoting HSM lyrics, oh yeah, I went there.
I've been looking around for a new bathing suit lately seeing as summer is coming up soon. No, it's not really soon. I think I'm just fooling myself into beleiving it is. School, be done already! Usually by the time I find a suit I like, summer's half way over. Oh yeah, I'm getting a head start this year.
I really want to find the perfect retro swimsuit

Errrm, okay not that retro.

I'm thinking a cute little pin-up number, something in the 40's or 50's style. I love rockabilly swimwear, it's so adorable and I like that it's not too skimpy. Really, do I need a tiny swimsuit after a whole winter of sitting inside? The answer is no.

I think I could pull off a two-piece, but I want one with high waisted bottoms. All the better to disguise the tum-tum...

A onesie would be ideal, I love the cut of these:

A printed onesie would be cute, although this would probably be the only time I would go for polka-dots

A trend that I'll never be over: Nautical. I love these cute little sailor swimsuits. I want them all!

Who knew swimsuit shopping could be so fun?! Definately less agonizing when you're not actually trying them on. Thank God for the internet!
