I got the pieces of the heart you broke

This has been me for the past few days. No, not nessesarily kissing my knee, but basically house bound as I'm really trying to NOT to spend any money... que PB&J with instant coffee for every meal! But seriously, if I go for a wander around the city I cannot be held accountable for my actions. I WILL buy something, and that's a fact.
To talk about some of the clothing-related going-ons in my life, I recently fixed one of my favourite pieces I've EVER owned, which was on the verge of death. My amazing Urban Outfitters moto jacket that I scooped on sale for $20 when I was, maybe, fifteen.

It has served me well, and when I was in denial of the sausage-like snuggness that developed in the arms the most predictable thing happened: it ripped. Right on the elbow. This happened months and months ago, and when I tried to stitch it up it not only looked odd, but didn't last more than 5 minutes. So basically I had two options: either say goodbye to my fav jacket, or take drastic measures. That's right my friends: elbow patches.
I just used some scrap fabric and fusable interfacing, and had to hand sew them on. I started this the NIGHT before I left Canada because I so desperately wanted to bring the jacket with me, but I realized it might take a while to hand sew them both on so I brought the jacket along with some thread and a needle.

Honestly, I'm loving the elbow patch look. And you know if this method doesn't hold up, I can always turn it into a sexy dance.



As much as I loved the gradient nail look I posted about last (anyone tried it yet?), I think the basecoat I used made a too smooth, slippery surface for the paint to stick to it started chipping pretty much immediately. Not to fear though! I did another design the next day using the paint again and just loaded on the layers of topcoat and it's still staying stong! What was the design you ask? Well I used a little J. Scott for inspiration.

And Jesus. Obviously.


This was made with acrylic paint and a black sharpie (or as my immitation markers read: shaerpie). Oh wow, you probably think I'm so cheap for using materials like this. Well, you're half right. But really I left all my makeup and polish at home, as you may remember, so I'm working with what I got! But not for long: my brother brought my makeup bags with him as he headed overseas for a trip to Germany. I'm meeting with him tomorrow as he's staying in London a few nights before heading back home. FINALLY I'll have some decent mascara (Revlon 3D Extreme for life!!) and my brushes and everything! Very excited!!
And another plus for this look: I match with my shopping bag.

Oh and you know that stuff I said about leaving the flat? Yeah, well to prove it I did go for a wander in Covent Garden yesterday and JUST LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!

Show me love

Yesterday I cut up some old tights (a mid calf length pair, ew!) and slipped them on as knee pads. Wootwoot, lets go rollerskating!

My mom actually said that I should be in Whip It with this geddup. That made me really happy. No lies. The clothes in that movie made me tingle with joy... and so did Landon Pigg. Uhh, YUM!

Unintentionally did a Marc bun, which I love too too much. Actually, the whole collection I loved too much. I loved the theme of "ballerinas off duty", and the white faces and delicate makup reminded me of beautiful porcelein dolls. Oh my, I have such an urge to gather up my dollies and have a tea party right now!


Do you think that neck ruffleage could hide a double chin? Hmmm, may need to consider it... Right after this:

I needs me some naked lady prints! And a weave to integrate into a side braid. Gahhh, I love.

This is why I don't do runway coverage. My response to most shows usually consist of a series of grunts, gasps, and sighs, sprinkled with plenty of "I NEED ME ONE OF THEM!"s. The English language at its highest, peeps.

The question is, who did it first? Hmmm. I'm betting on ol' Jeffrey to the be the copycat. I've just got a feeling.
Personally, I like the Alice + Olivia ones better. Not to mention their attractive price tag of $49.99 US... versus the $198 Jeffrey Campbell model. In the end it doesn't really matter to me as here in the middle of nowheresland Canada, both are far FAR from reach.

The Glam Buccaneer

Sorry it's been kind of... still, around the blog. I've been trying to get ready for London this week, although I'm not really sure how to pack. I mean, how am I supposed to try and narrow down my shoe selection?! It's downright impossible. I'm not familiar with these things called "comfortable, practical shoes". My Mom keeps going on about them, but I haven't a clue what she's talking about...

This is what I wore on a night out last week. Not very exciting, but the black body-con dress is yet another H&M find. It has piping all in the front and back, as well as a line of brass snaps down the back. I kind of love it

I pulled these AA printed leggings over my heels, and when I took off my shoes at the end of the night the ink from the fabric had leaked onto my shoes! I'm not very impressed with American Apparel lately, pretty much everything I've bought from there I've had a problem with. Not cool, AA. Not cool.

Something that is cool? Katy Perry's sparkly pants in her new video.

Seriously. They are freaking shiny chunks of heaven. Pretty much every outfit from this video made me really envious deep down inside. I can't help it, it's all too good.

And has anybody seen Beyonce's new "Diva" video? I really don't think I can post any screencaps without puking a little in my mouth, so I'll leave it to you to investigate if you wish. She's wearing Gareth Pugh in pretty much every outfit, and it looks soooooo not right. Sorry if you're a fan of Beyonce, but I am a huge Pugh fan and this is just not acceptable. I don't want to try and tell people that shouldn't be wearing this or that, but I think Beyonce is just stepping much too far out of her comfort zone in terms of her "new image". She is just not working this new edgy/futuristic/divarobot look she's trying to give off, and actually succeeds in making Gareth Pugh look trashy. I wonder what he thinks of all this.

These are the days when you have to try

I've always admired anyone who can pull off an awsome hat. No, not a beanie or a toque or anything quite so glamourous. I'm talking about crazy fly headgear a la Isabella Blow. Now SHE knew how to work a hat.

I love hats but I feel like I'm not one who can work them into my outfits. If I try wearing one I feel like it draws a lot more attention than I'd like. I try to balance an outfit, not just so one piece pulls all the attention. This spring/summer I'm going to make a real effort to bring the hat back... full force!

For the past few years I've been obsessed with those little military caps that you see in old WWII pictures and waiters at 50's diners, and don't forget Britney in the "Toxic" video! It took me a long time before I even thought to find out what they were called. 5 seconds on Wikipedia anwered my question. What a no brainer...

Anyways, I found out they were called forage caps, also known as garrison caps. I plugged it into eBay and found exactly what I was looking for: a lovely, green, authentic military forage cap. I bid right away and scored one for less that 10 bucks, with shipping!

The seller wrapped it in tissue paper with a little sticker, how precious! I wanted to cry it was so adorable.

I'm so pumped to try it out. I love the old pictures of women with short curly hair and the cap placed perfectly over their part. I just got a lot of layers in my hair so maybe it'll actaully hold a curl now. I think I'll put badges and pins on mine, the eBay seller even gave me a real U.S. army button with the hat!

My next hat hunt will be a black boater. Ever since I saw JLo's Just Sweet runway show I've been DYING for a black sequined boater hat. Of course anything that rad is not actually on sale on the Just Sweet website... the only cool thing in your collection Jenny and you decide to not sell it?! Girrrrl, not hot!

New York Dolls

If you haven't visited New York Couture yet, you really should head on over. This small clothing label established in... well, where else, New York, has my style written all over it. I would gladly take anything and everything from New York couture, my favourites including the frilly hot pants and dresses featuring owls, pandas, and snakes!

I had the website on my favourites list for a long time, but happily rediscovered it a few days ago. Just in time too, they've got a 4 year anaversay sale going on. The clothes are very reasonably priced indeed, not that they need an atractive price tag... they had me at tighty-whitey tutus.

These shiny bow leggings will me mine. No question, I will get them someday, somehow.

I can see M.I.A. having a healthy dose of NYC in her wardrobe. What can I say, I'm not over neons, sparkles, or any other seizure-inducing fabrics just yet. I'll still be rocking lamé looks when I'm 82.

Time with my girl, I spend it well.

My overall Vancouver shopping experience was, well, quite short lived. I saw tons of cool stores I would have loved to visit while driving up and down downtown, but alas I only ended up with a few hours of decent shopping on the last day. I went to a few malls throughout the entire trip, but really, I don't consider that to be serious shopping. We spent a night in Whistler B.C., which is pretty much a snowboard/ski destination. It was little a little village full of shops and restaurants, but it's just my luck that all the stores were boarder gear and apparel. Lovely.

So for a lack of a more creative approach, here's the pictures of the junk I was able to acquire within my 6 day journey:

I bought this from a skateboard shop in a mall. I know I know, I can't beleive I found something I liked in that kind of store. I love the mint houndstooth pattern and the bubble hem. Plus it's a bit on the slouchy side to I get this cool, Japanese vibe from it.

These heels I found at Winners. Sorry for the blurry pic, but really they are sweet. I hope it's not a bad thing that my mom is in love with them...

This dress is way cool, I just had to buy two! Just kidding. It was on mad sale at H&M so I just got two instead of spending 30 seconds to decide which colour I liked better.

Heck yes!! Y'all know I love the snakeskin! Found this bad boy at Winners. What can I say it was love at first sight. I realized after that it will be super practical too as it can fit about 4 binders and a laptop inside!

I've wanted some plain white converse for a loooong time, so I scooped these up right away. They're actually a different style than classic chucks, a bit more like boxing boots. Sweetness!

Another Winners find. I have a tank top pretty much exactly like this as well, but all white. This dress has a little shimmer to it so it's got an interesting texture. It's also got this nice long zipper all the way up the back.

This lovely is from H&M. It's like a fancy crop top, perfect for layering with dresses. So pretty :)

Whoaaaa. Amazing right? LOVES IT! Teired, jersey fabric, layered, attractive pricetag, what's not to love? I found it mixed in with the boring buisness type junk at H&M. Boy am I happy I didn't just skip that entire section.

It reminds me of Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2007, with the neaural colours, yet funky Japanese look and feel. Anyone? No? Okay just me then.
